Maybe Age Really is JUST a NUMBER

Last week, two colleagues of mine were in town working on a project. As visitors to Thunder Bay, they asked me where a “happening place is that serves different beers;” as I started listing off some pubs and restaurants, I caught myself saying “it was a cool place when I was young”…instantly adding the “er”… youngerrrrrr, to complete my sentence followed by the defensive comment- “I am still young.” I just turned 32 this past weekend. It sounds nice, thirty-two.  Age is supposed to bring wisdom, intelligence and beauty, so why is everyone so afraid of it? Age to me IS[…]

Put more spring in your life: Clear out the clutter

As we bid adieu to winter, and jump for joy that it’s spring, it’s one of the best times of the year as far as I’m concerned. Goodbye mitts, boots and wool-knit sweaters. I am so beyond over you! Helllloooo sunshine, warmer temps and longer days. Spring represents new beginnings, a desire for a fresh start. We emerge from hibernation, go outside and breathe in the fresh crisp air while exhaling the longest winter EVER! (Thank god it’s over! It is over, right??!!) Spring is the time of the year when a lot of people start exercising (as the time bomb[…]

ONE YEAR OF #BAYAWESOME.

Today we celebrate! Happy Anniversary Bay Awesome! Cheers to a year of writing, sharing and just simply Bay’in Awesome!!! I like writing, but I have discovered over the past few years that I really love blogging and writing about things that make me buzz, raise my eyebrows, and make me feel energized. It’s  pretty neat when you discover what you’re passionate about in life. There was a moment when I was writing, that I completely forgot about the outside world, felt in the zone, my soul pouring onto paper… I found my happy! Pay close attention to those seconds in[…]

I have to be honest…I’ve lost my AWESOME.

I am in a slump. Yes, the woman who writes to you about being awesome and annoys you with post after post of motivational and inspiring quotes, is in a slump, and even worse, can’t get out!!! It’s true, even the most motivated of us — you, me, Oprah Winfrey — can feel unmotivated at times. In fact, sometimes we get stuck in such a slump that even thinking about digging our way out seems too difficult, even impossible. I have to admit, I’m feeling pretty low about myself. It’s gotten so bad, that at this point I’ve  worn a[…]

Friendfluence

No one ever tells you the hard truths of life. Maybe it’s because they think you can’t stomach it, or maybe it’s because they think it’s just something you have to experience firsthand to understand. One thing I wish I was told – the famous quote: “As we grow up, we realize it becomes less important to have a ton of friends, and more important to have real ones.” We all grew up watching Zack, Kelly, Slater, Jessie, Lisa and Screech- Saved by the Bell to the College Years to the Wedding Special…buddy bands, friends forever. Reality check!  Relationships change[…]

The Curse of Always Wanting More.

Thanksgiving– a day designated to scarf down as much turkey and pie possible (guilt-free), a Christmas dress-rehearsal, a tradition well-rooted in family, friends, food and fall festivities; But most importantly, a day to give thanks. Ya, I know, it tends to  be easier to focus on what we don’t have (I didn’t win that $60 M either), rather than what we do, but Turkey Day says it’s absolutely crucial to take time out and reflect on  all of the things to be thankful for. It’s actually the perfect time to refocus and start some simple habits towards grateful living. In my mid[…]

Forever Friday

Last week I took a nice bay-cation (staying in and around Thunder Bay for my summer holiday). I was excited to have some time off, looked forward to it for weeks, but even shortly into the break, I was also dreading going back. Now don’t get me wrong, I love my job, LOVE IT, but I’ve recently found myself falling into the whole ‘TGIF’ mindset. It’s definitely not the best attitude to have, but it’s easy to get wrapped up in the “Friday’s” when time off goes by so fast, vacations, weekends- before you know it, you’re stuck in the same grind you[…]

Walk like an Egyptian- It’s MY Birthday!

You know there are a lot of people in this world that don’t celebrate birthdays- from not wanting attention, not thinking that another year passing is anything to celebrate, fear of getting older, being  humble… I’ve heard it all.  I’ve had a good amount of birthdays as I turn the big 3-1 this year, but every single year I still continue to make sure there is some sort of to-do. There has to be, there is no other way. Starting at a young age- New Kids on the Block theme parties, throwing on roller skates at Wheelies (so classic); and[…]

I think it’s time we see other people.

As a kid, one of my favourite things in the entire world was roasting marshmallows… a classic campfire activity that warms your heart. The task of finding that perfect stick, putting the marshmallow in the most ideal spot over the campfire to turn it that “just right golden brown”, (mine would be a charred black as they always tasted better burnt…ya, I’m a weirdo), and then placing the gooey goodness between two graham crackers with a piece of chocolate. Yum! This past  weekend, I got to recreate that memory and I enjoyed every second of it. With just one bite[…]

First comes Love, then comes Marriage, then comes 30, and then comes…BABY?

The second I turned 30 it seemed like everyone and their mother had one question for me: “WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO HAVE A BABY??” First of all, I think it’s a little personal to ask me that; I mean do I ask you about your ovaries or about your sex life? Nope, I don’t. Now don’t get me wrong, I love kids…with the same love and passion I have for pizza, clothes, and travelling, but I feel absolutely no stress to reproduce just because everyone else is doing it, it’s trending on twitter and apparently my internal clock is tick,[…]
