Friendfluence

No one ever tells you the hard truths of life. Maybe it’s because they think you can’t stomach it, or maybe it’s because they think it’s just something you have to experience firsthand to understand. One thing I wish I was told – the famous quote: “As we grow up, we realize it becomes less important to have a ton of friends, and more important to have real ones.” We all grew up watching Zack, Kelly, Slater, Jessie, Lisa and Screech- Saved by the Bell to the College Years to the Wedding Special…buddy bands, friends forever. Reality check!  Relationships change[…]

The Curse of Always Wanting More.

Thanksgiving– a day designated to scarf down as much turkey and pie possible (guilt-free), a Christmas dress-rehearsal, a tradition well-rooted in family, friends, food and fall festivities; But most importantly, a day to give thanks. Ya, I know, it tends to  be easier to focus on what we don’t have (I didn’t win that $60 M either), rather than what we do, but Turkey Day says it’s absolutely crucial to take time out and reflect on  all of the things to be thankful for. It’s actually the perfect time to refocus and start some simple habits towards grateful living. In my mid[…]

Forever Friday

Last week I took a nice bay-cation (staying in and around Thunder Bay for my summer holiday). I was excited to have some time off, looked forward to it for weeks, but even shortly into the break, I was also dreading going back. Now don’t get me wrong, I love my job, LOVE IT, but I’ve recently found myself falling into the whole ‘TGIF’ mindset. It’s definitely not the best attitude to have, but it’s easy to get wrapped up in the “Friday’s” when time off goes by so fast, vacations, weekends- before you know it, you’re stuck in the same grind you[…]

Walk like an Egyptian- It’s MY Birthday!

You know there are a lot of people in this world that don’t celebrate birthdays- from not wanting attention, not thinking that another year passing is anything to celebrate, fear of getting older, being  humble… I’ve heard it all.  I’ve had a good amount of birthdays as I turn the big 3-1 this year, but every single year I still continue to make sure there is some sort of to-do. There has to be, there is no other way. Starting at a young age- New Kids on the Block theme parties, throwing on roller skates at Wheelies (so classic); and[…]

I think it’s time we see other people.

As a kid, one of my favourite things in the entire world was roasting marshmallows… a classic campfire activity that warms your heart. The task of finding that perfect stick, putting the marshmallow in the most ideal spot over the campfire to turn it that “just right golden brown”, (mine would be a charred black as they always tasted better burnt…ya, I’m a weirdo), and then placing the gooey goodness between two graham crackers with a piece of chocolate. Yum! This past  weekend, I got to recreate that memory and I enjoyed every second of it. With just one bite[…]

First comes Love, then comes Marriage, then comes 30, and then comes…BABY?

The second I turned 30 it seemed like everyone and their mother had one question for me: “WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO HAVE A BABY??” First of all, I think it’s a little personal to ask me that; I mean do I ask you about your ovaries or about your sex life? Nope, I don’t. Now don’t get me wrong, I love kids…with the same love and passion I have for pizza, clothes, and travelling, but I feel absolutely no stress to reproduce just because everyone else is doing it, it’s trending on twitter and apparently my internal clock is tick,[…]

Now go, Bay Awesome.

Let’s face it- we are all awesome human beings. I like to think that as a baby I was dropped into a pool of glitter and awesomeness…and maybe some bronzer too. I truly didn’t recognize this inner self awesomeness or who I really was until my 30th year. Just thinking about the gal I was in my 20’s- so much wasted brain space and worries on things that really didn’t matter…’She doesn’t like me, he won’t ever date me, I can’t do this, I’m not good at that.’ People would say, ‘Amanda Bay- You just have to be yourself,‘ and I thought, ‘But[…]
