Top 20 Awesome Thunder Bay Holiday Gifts

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The festive lights are twinkling, Home Alone is on repeat,  the streets are bustling and Santa’s are appearing … and you haven’t done any holiday shopping yet? I know, Christmas gift giving can be an absolute nightmare for many, full of stress and the unknowns. What do you get that person who has everything? What can you find for your special someone? Well, don’t get your tinsel in a tangle. I did it for you. As I consider myself a little bit of an expert in shopping (most will attest to that),[…]

Sorry, I’ve been busy.

It happens. Days turn into weeks, weeks turn into months, months turn into years and before we know it, our thirties are almost behind us and here we are. Life gets busy, and when you are living a busy life, time moves fast. I hate that word “busy” (as in- ‘Hi! How are you?’ —‘I’m soo busy’ . Wanted!  In need. So many things to do. I am soooo bussssyyyy.) — Can you say BARF!?! For a long time, I actually tried  to completely eliminate it from my vocabulary,  (buh bye BUSY), but this past year the word (busy)  managed to[…]

Downward diggity dog! Inhale the future exhale the past.

I walked into my hot yoga class the other day and laid down my mat in the exact same place I’ve put it for every single session I go to- front left corner, facing the mirror. I noticed some of my fellow yogis starring at me with looks of uncertainty… almost disgust. I thought to myself, well this isn’t normal…this isn’t “namaste” of you. A girl beside me then whispered, “the instructor does the class in a circle.” Ummmm WHAT!? I hadn’t been to this particular class before. A new teacher. So with hesitation and a slight eye roll,  I[…]

Don’t be so shady.

“You’re fat. You look ugly today. You’re not good enough. That was a stupid thing to say. You can’t do it. You’re definitely not worth it. You’re lazy.”  Awful comments right? And guess who made them? These are the actual words WE are saying to OURSELVES on a daily basis. Whatever happened to “if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all”? You know, the golden rule that every single one of us was taught in the sandbox and landed us in the timeout chair if we didn’t follow through; the rule that was all about[…]

When you’re smiling.

Smiling! That’s something I love to do. No matter what. Smiling is contagious, and is more powerful than you might even know. Smiles set crooked things straight, for real. For starters, smiling is a sure way to brighten your day… I know you are trying it right now… see, smiling makes you feel instantly good. AND even better, has the ability to strengthen our immune system, regulate blood pressure and releases happy endorphins into our body. (I also think smiley people are a little more attractive and memorable as well). However, you, yes you, the average adult, only smiles on[…]

2016: The year of____________.

It will go down as the year known for netflix and chill, Pokemon Go,  Gord Downie and the Secret Path, Beyonce’s lemonade, Facebook reactions, NHL playoff hero Matt Murray, crop tops, Donald Trump, snapchat filters, and the mannequin challenge… (along with a lot of other awesome and not so awesome things). 2016.  Also now being crowned as the “worst year ever”.  (Ummmm a little dramatic don’t you think??) Over the last couple of days I have seen social media explode about how much people want 2016 to end, how much they hate it… loathe it…oh the drama. Drama, drama, drammmmaaaaaa.[…]

Pour me a glass of Haterade: When people try to steal your awesome.

Feeling small. We’ve all been there. I get you. It doesn’t matter how you choose to live your life — Whether you build a business from the ground up,  work your little butt off; maybe you’re a homebody, you love to cook, you might run triathlons, choose not to go to the gym, adopt rescue dogs, save lives on a daily basis; perhaps you dedicate endless hours giving back and volunteering; you are the next Mother Teresa for all we know; But what I do know — whatever you do, or don’t do, someone will still judge you for it. I wear[…]

Owning your Awesome: Being comfortable in your own skin.

Being human is definitely not an easy task- there are so many social and peer pressures all around us, asking us to be someone we’re not, pushing us to think that it’s not acceptable to be who we are. I’ve struggled for a big part of my life with that feeling. From being teased in grade school (I wore adidas track suits on a daily basis -it was like they sponsored my grade 5 to 7 years; had a side ponytail to the left and big curly bangs to the right, not to mention an uncontrollable eagerness to answer every single question[…]

Maybe Age Really is JUST a NUMBER

Last week, two colleagues of mine were in town working on a project. As visitors to Thunder Bay, they asked me where a “happening place is that serves different beers;” as I started listing off some pubs and restaurants, I caught myself saying “it was a cool place when I was young”…instantly adding the “er”… youngerrrrrr, to complete my sentence followed by the defensive comment- “I am still young.” I just turned 32 this past weekend. It sounds nice, thirty-two.  Age is supposed to bring wisdom, intelligence and beauty, so why is everyone so afraid of it? Age to me IS[…]
