The Sweet North’s Harry Potter Great Feast: The Most Magical Event of the Year

From the moment I received my personalized letter of acceptance from the Owl Post  (which included the official Hogwart’s crest and gold seal, signed by Professor McGonagall herself) I knew this event was going to be grand.  Hogwarts students and volunteers alike have been sharing photos and videos since the Sunday event, making everyone else in the world who didn’t get to go, jealous— and you have every right to be.  Muggles that were lucky enough to be given one of 49 spots to the Sweet North Great Feast (it sold out in 20 minutes) met at platform 9 -3/4[…]

Rise darling, don’t fall.

I won’t ever forget the day I launched my blog. I was so excited and happy to introduce my “baby” and work of passion to the world— something that was years in the making and a project I poured my heart and soul into. However, the day didn’t quite end the way I had envisioned it to. The day Bayawesome went live, I received a lot of support- really positive messages, texts, calls… but an email I received later that night took all of my attention. I fixated on it as it defeated all of the encouragement of the day, and[…]

The Bay Awesome TBay Top 20 Summer Bucket List

Remember those summer days spent running around outside until sunset, listening to your favourite summer jams on repeat, eating freezies, swimming for hours until your hands turned pruney…the days of Sun-In, super soakers, slip n’ slides, Skip-Its—Day after day, being as wild and as carefree as can be. It was a magical time in our lives. Now that we’re all grown up, it’s impossible to not feel nostalgic about those endless summer days spent squeezing the life out of every second. Ya, adulting is hard. With that said, I’ve decided to make the absolute most of this summer. Do it[…]

Just Call Me Auntie Amanda.

One day I opened my eyes and realized that life had a brand new soundtrack—literally. It was no longer 50 Cent’s ‘In da club’… it was my best friend’s baby screaming in my face as she handed him off to me to go have a minute of “alone time”, AKA go to the bathroom and hide. I was left in complete terror while she walked away, thinking ‘you don’t even pee by yourself!?’… the baby continuing to cry looking down at my chest as if I had something to offer.  It really sunk in at that moment as he peered at[…]

A fresh start. When things don’t go as planned.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve had my life all mapped out, creating this perfect storyline for my future… “This is the career I will have, this is where I am going to live, these are the trips I’m going to take, these are the best friends I will have forever, this is the man I will marry, this is when I will reproduce a mini-me, this is where I will retire and live happily ever after” — all plans and dreams that I cherished and nurtured, holding close to my heart. I called it my interior blueprint and I[…]

Craft Revival VIII- Spring Edition

It’s one of my favourite events of the year! Painted as the biggest craft market in Northwestern Ontario, the 8th Annual Craft Revival returns to the Waterfront District in Thunder Bay on Sunday, May 6th. Thanks to Shaw TV Thunder Bay for handing me the mic to showcase this feature with event founder and coordinator, Maelyn Hurley.  Over 140 artisans will participate in the event that is expected to attract close to 3000 people to Thunder Bay’s downtown. Craft Revival is taking place at 15 local businesses, that not only showcases works of art (from paintings, to clothing, jewelry, home decor, wood working, food), but also performers at each location.

I make a day of it, with brunch (and mimosas), friends and shopping. It’s the most perfect Sunday! The amount of local talent is this city is simply amazing and this event truly revives the love for art and crafting in Thunder Bay. For further details checkout the official Craft Revival event page.

Storytelling and lemonade.

This blog post is a part of a feature series called Heart of Our City by Intercity Shopping Centre. Amanda is a proud contributor to the campaign.  ‘Bay Awesome’— It’s a mantra I live by, a way of life and something that has evolved with me as I’ve grown up. It’s about living your life and not letting it live you, by investing in yourself  (without the slightest bit of apology), and simply doing things that you love and are passionate about. Sure, this may sound a tad self help-y, but it’s simple; once you figure out who you are and[…]
